(Background: Trey and I were cast in the local community theatre production of Narnia. He's Father Christmas, and an Evil Hamma-Dryad (think tree spirit thing), and I'm a good Dryad (Cherry Tree, actually. Complete with Sakura blossoms) This play has consumed our lives as only community theatre can. Ensue entry...)
So. Last night, we get to the theatre 'la'er than I'd loike,' and I'm not in the best mood (all kinds of little reasons) and I start putting on my makeup, and one of the gals comes in, "Ah! Bizzy, um, don't get too Dryad makeup -ey just yet, okay?" And then walks away. *Blink* Ooookaaaay. two minutes later, the director's wife stops by and says practically the same thing. Fortunately, at this point, as I'm getting really confused, someone else says "Did you tell her why?" 'oh, well, uh, M___ (White Witch Actress) is really sick...and, um, may not be able to make it tonight, and well, Director was wondering if it would be possible (holding off point as long as possible, I am being overcome by a sense of omg, Omg, OMG, WT- You've GOT to be kidding me!!!) if you could fill in for her."
Well, of course, I said yes, though not before making sure they know I don't quite have the gal's voice, and will need to be studying the script like now, and in the end, it ROCKED!! We had to 'hem' the costume with safety pins, I skipped at least a stanza in one song (awesome job Orchestra for covering for me!) and i had SUCH A BLAST!!!! OMG, that has got to be one of the funnest roles to play EVER!!! And although i still spent almost every spare moment trying to absorb the exact words of the lines, I actually had managed to get almost all of them already, just by being in the show. Thank you God for giving me this amazing gift!!! And since her role is so interesting I'd been watching her through most of the rehearsals, cuz it was fun! And that really helped to pick up the basics of entrances and blocking (I still managed to screw some of that up). Still. I covered for her at a pick up rehearsal two weeks ago, and then had an hour and a half before the show to prepare for the role of the main villain. That is NOT a lot of time for a role that large. Seriously, Thank God for a good memory, and an entire cast of praying actors!
And, apparently, I pulled it off with marvelous success. People were actually scared of me, and I really really hope someone has already asked M___ for an autograph, cuz I was asked for one last night. What can I say? It's just so darn fun being wicked!
